Bethesda Memorial Hospital Receives Award

Bethesda Memorial Hospital is the recipient of the Florida Exceptional Employer Award presented by the state of Florida. Bethesda Property Manager, Peter Kariher, accepted the award at the Disability Employment Awareness Month kick-off celebration on October 1, 2009 in Tallahassee, FL. The Florida Exceptional Employer Award recognizes an employer’s commitment to hiring and retaining people with disabilities and their initiative in creating unique employment opportunities.

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), Blind Services, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), and the Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI) honored eight businesses from across the state for their commitment to hiring people with disabilities. Governor Charlie Christ congratulated the honorees via video.

Bethesda Healthcare System currently partners with Gulfstream Goodwill L.I.F.E. Academy, Inc. in Boynton Beach, where developmentally disabled youth and young adults receive on the job training and experience. The students work in different areas of the hospital including medical records, food and nutrition, and environmental services. Visit them at www.BethesdaWeb.com.
